The Scions of Redemption

To go alongside my new Primaris Imperial Fists chapter I have written some background for the Scions of Redemption.

Enjoy.

When the torchbearer fleet came to the Phalanx to grant the Imperial Fists Primaris reinforcements they were warmly greeted. However their introduction was not seamless. The Second Company under Captain Zandar Chiros’s command had to be ordered by Chapter Master Dessian himself in order to accept them.

Despite incorporating Primaris Marines into the Scions of Redemption Chiro was adamant that their tactics would not change. After all, failure to follow the Codex Astarte led to the disaster with the Rise of the Beast and the Imperial Fists would not fail again on his watch!

This all came to a head when the Second Company were fighting to defend the planet Haliox from Waaagh Ironskull. Lieutenant Dalen advocated a strike with Phobos units to strike into the heart of the enemy force, killing Boss Ironskull and so weakening the entire Ork force. Captain Chiro would have none of it. The Scions of Redemption were to fortify the hive cities and defeat the Waaagh using the tried and tested methods of the Codex.

Dalen ignored his Captains orders and took a strike force of Rievers right to the heart of the Ork war camp. The first that Captain Chiro knew of this plan was when the attacking Ork army, on the verge of overrunning the Imperial Fists positions, suddenly became disorganised and fell to infighting. With Dalen voxxing in the success of his mission Dalen ordered the Imperial forces to attack and the Waaagh was crushed.

In the aftermath of this narrowly averted disaster Captain Chiros saw just one way to atone for his failures. Taking Dorn’s belief that pain burns away impurity and brings clarity to its logical conclusion, Chiros and all eligible Space Marines in the company volunteered to pass through the Rubicon Primaris in order to better serve the Chapter.

With the risk, and cost, of failure so high the request was turned down out of hand. So Chiro went and petitioned the Dessian personally. No one will speak of what was said there but eventually permission was granted. The cost to the company was indeed high, barely a third of those that underwent the process survived, amongst them Chiros.

Reinforced from the Chapters neophytes the Second Company is now a fully Primaris company, though if their Captain has truly learnt his lesson remains to be seen…
